Tiruvannamalai is a pilgrimage city located in the state of Tamil Nadu of South India. Tiruvannamalai is one of the most venerated places in Tamil Nadu. The name of the city was driven from the terms "Thiru" – sacred or holy and "Annamalai" - inaccessible mountain. Tiruvannamalai is home to one of the greatest temples of lord Shiva. Annamalaiyar Temple is one of the Pancha Bootha Sthalams representing the fire element is located at the foot of the Annamalai hill and amongst one of the great Shiva Temples of Tamil Nadu. The temple dedicated to lord Shiva was built in th 9th century by the Chola kings of the Tamil empire.
